The following list compiles grants that can be applicable to microhabitat initiatives.
Strategies for Ecology Education Diversity and Sustainability (SEEDS) Program Chapter Grants: An app and online tool that allows individuals and organizations to document and share data about bird collisions with buildings and other human-made structures. The platform collects information on where and when bird strikes occur, along with details about the affected species. This crowdsourced data helps researchers, conservationists, and urban planners identify high-risk areas and develop strategies to mitigate bird collisions.

National Sea Grant College program: “The Sea Grant network consists of a federal/university partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and 34 university-based programs in every coastal and Great Lakes state, Puerto Rico, and Guam…Sea Grant provides a variety of funding opportunities based on its work in four focus areas: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Resilient Coastal Communities and Economies, and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development.” A previous funding recipient includes the Red Oak Rain Garden at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Colorado Garden Foundation “The organization supports horticulture and horticultural related projects and those groups that are involved or directly related. Education is emphasized. Areas of interest include horticultural-related research, education, therapy and community improvements.” Awarded over $13 million to fund horticulture grants, and awards an annual Major Grant for up to $75,000. Past recipients include higher education programs (e.g., Colorado State University).

National Garden Bureau: “National Garden Bureau launched a philanthropic program in 2014 that supports the building and growth of therapeutic gardens across North America. This program furthers NGB’s mission of promoting gardening to gardeners and non-gardeners alike.” Past grant recipients are community organizations, but university programs are eligible to apply.

Native Wildflower Seed Grant: Provides “free supplemental native wildflower seed to assist large-scale habitat projects and further the impact of their current efforts”. Projects must be 10+ acres in size.

Urban Streams Restoration Program: Provides over $96 million in 327 grants to programs within California. “USRP prioritizes projects with innovative green infrastructure and bioengineering solutions (using natural infrastructure or leveraging ecosystem services) that reduce flooding and erosion problems and utilize native plants.” An initiative of the California Department of Water Resources.
